Great Lakes Lacquer Say Hello 2 Heaven Trio - Swatches & Review

Great Lakes Lacquer Say Hello 2 Heaven Trio - Swatches & Review

I'm SO excited to share not one, but two Great Lakes Lacquer reviews with you today! Skip ahead for photos, or keep on reading.

A little back story: over the past year or so, I've purchased more polishes from this brand than almost any other and I've come to really love the Great Lakes Lacquer finishes, inspiration, and most of all, amazing formula. Add to that the fact that the maker, Mariah, is someone I've only ever had wonderful interactions with, GLL has risen to be one of my favorite indie brands. So imagine my excitement when after submitting a swatcher application, I was contacted! :D

About the Polishes

LAUNCH DETAILS: Launching July 12th at 2 PM EST and available until August 2nd at 2 PM EST in the Great Lakes Lacquer shop (same day and time as the 2 year anniversary shades, plus small batch samples)

PRICE: These polishes are $12 each with proceeds (about 30%) going to charity. More on that below.

HOW TO BUY: Must be a member of the Polish ReVamped Facebook group. More info below.

The three shades in this post are Facebook group customs for Polish ReVamped, a group dedicated to the love of all things vampy, moderated by a lovely lady named Elena. These are only available to members of the group for the time period listed above, so head on over and join Polish ReVamped! It's a fun, laid back group and you won't regret it.

About the Inspiration

From the maker, Mariah:

As you all probably know, we lost a great artist recently in Chris Cornell. His voice will never be replaced, not in sound or in words.

Elena and I first bonded over Chris. He was a common thread that built a foundation for the friendship we enjoy today. We thought it was fitting then to do this here.

This trio honors Chris Cornell, (of Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave and solo work), and his influence and presence in Mariah's And Elena's lives. Roughly 30% of the proceeds from these polishes will be going to charity.  Chris was a huge proponent of helping children in need, so Mariah has chosen to help Ele's Place, a non-profit providing counseling to children and teens grieving in her local area.  Learn more about Ele's Place and how they help.

Let's Get Into the Swatches!

All photos in this post are taken under artificial light. The first and last polishes used Talon Super Swatch & Peel base coat by Nail Hoot, (a clear peel-able vinyl base), and for the middle polish I used a Sally Hansen base coat, since I wore it as a full mani after swatching. All are topped with Glisten & Glow HK Girl topcoat

No One Sings Like You Anymore

A black jelly filled with three kinds of flake (multichrome, iridescent, and crystal), purple shimmer, and a strong scattered holo.

2 coats + topcoat

I literally wrote "mesmerizing" in my notes. This polish is absolutely gorgeous! It's packed with SO many flakies that I expected it to be tricky to apply, but as long as you don't overload the brush, it applies in two super easy coats. I found it looked more espresso than black once on the nail due to all the flakies in mostly warm tones. Really complex, sparkly, and oh so pretty.

Every Drop Of Flame

A flaming scarlet linear holographic with an inner orange glow in certain lights.

1 COAT! + topcoat

You read that right - ONE COAT. I was just as surprised as you are to find that without even trying, this beauty was perfectly opaque for me in one coat. For longer nails or a really opaque free edge, you may need two, but the formula is so smooth you won't mind at all. This polish is sexy as hell and so perfect for the ReVamped group! The shimmer makes it appear almost velvety. I don't wear reds very often, but this became my surprise favorite of the trio and I wore it for a few days.

Eyes Like Oceans

A sea glass green crelly filled with gold to bronze multichrome flake, blue to gold to green iridescent flake, violet iridescent flake, and blue to green shimmer.

2 coats + topcoat

This polish is so unique and I absolutely love it! The base color reminds me of the paler shades of jade you often see used in jewelry. On the nail, it has a speckled look overall, but the flakies are really beautiful up close. On the brush this seemed a bit thick, but ended up being just as easy to work with as any other GLL and covered easily in two coats, though longer nails may require three. I regret not adding matte topcoat to this because I'm sure it would look amazing.

Now that you've seen all three, do you have a favorite? When I first saw the bottles, I expected either No One Sings Like You Anymore or Eyes Like Oceans to be my favorite, and while it was really close, Every Drop of Flame snuck up to totally wow me and win the show!

This is such a unique and beautiful trio, so don't miss out. Join the Polish ReVamped group and set your calendars for July 12th at 2 PM EST at the Great Lakes Lacquer shop. Also releasing that day are two beautiful polishes marking the two year anniversary of GLL, as well as small batch and sample shades.
